‘D.A.R.E’d’
‘D.A.R.E’d’ is my attempt at addressing some of the many reasons people may end up taking drugs, and expressing just how difficult that can make life. It’s also a response to the anti drug campaign ‘D.A.R.E’ that a lot of people my age had to take part in during primary school. To be blunt, it just didn’t do enough. It didn’t explain why, people might feel the need to take drugs or what to do if you do end up using them. The poem has lyrics from the D.A.R.E graduation song and is one of my oldest poems.
’Clay Cross’
’Clay Cross’ is a really sentimental piece to me. It means a lot. It’s about a time in my life when I felt utterly free and ultimately set me on the path to where I am today. It’s about moving out with your mates and having your own space for the first time; trying to figure out what you’re supposed to be doing, who you are, and what you’re about.
It’s about all the things that we got up to, and one of my personal favourites.

’It’s Gunna Be Alright’
’It’s Gunna Be Alright’ is a desperate reminder of hope and refuge from all the shit we’re thrown. It’s about surrounding yourself with things that matter, having a space to go to, to be free and truly think, and be you.
It’s about human legacy, doing things you’re remembered for because it’s the right thing to do.
It’s a reminder that life must go on and that we must keep moving; and that even if everything’s not alright at the minute, everything is ‘gunna be alright’... eventually. It’s about keeping hope when you feel there is none. It’s about growing up and making mistakes, and dragging ya sen back up again to do it all again tomorrow, with the faith that eventually, you will be alright.
